Breckenridge Ski Vacations

With all the superb ski areas in Colorado, you might wonder why you should choose Breckenridge. After all, just about every Colorado ski resort boasts a proverbial "something for everyone." However, in the case of Breckenridge, the statement is actually true.

Why Breckenridge?

Because of its varied terrain and unique historic town, Breckenridge is enjoyed by families, singles and spring breakers. Because of its base elevation of 9, 6000 feet and a summit elevation of 12, 998 feet, Breckenridge is blessed with an average annual snowfall of 305 inches. This is enhanced by the resort's amazing snow-making capacity.

Breckenridge has:

  • 4 Surface Lifts
  • 8 Carpet Lifts
  • 6 Double Chairs
  • 1 Triple Chair
  • 7 High-Speed Quad Chairs
  • 2 High-Speed Six
  • 1 Gondola

The gondola, otherwise known as the Breck Connect, is the newest addition to the Breckenridge lift system. Visitors can take the free Summit Stage Bus to Breckenridge Station and then take the Breck Connect to Peak 7, Peak 8 and Shock Hill.

Breckenridge for the Adventurous

While the Breck Connect adds convenience, the new Imperial Express Lift provides an opportunity for adventure.  It's North America's highest chairlift, as well as one of the only ski lifts that give skiers access to backcountry terrain.  The Imperial is perfect for any one who wants a taste of off-piste skiing, but lacks the necessary equipment, or stamina for hiking up the slope at 10,000 feet.

As if that was not enough, Breckenridge has five terrain parks and four half pipes, which have been ranked amongst the best in the world. There's even a two-day Parks and Pipes Camp, which is open to advanced skiers and riders. For information, call (970) 496-7534. However, novices and intermediates need not be intimidated by all this talk of tough terrain.

Breckenridge for Beginners and Intermediates

Breckenridge has some of the best beginner trails in the country, as well as user friendly lifts that help skiers and riders enjoy easy trails at higher elevations. For example, the Quicksilver lift allows six passengers, which is perfect for a family traveling together. It services the Silverthorne Trail, which is long but extremely easy. The resort also has a stellar ski and ride school, which is the best way to learn the sport.

Breckenridge Specialty Programs for Aspiring Experts

For intermediate and advanced skiers and riders, Breckenridge offers women's clinics, Telemark clinics and Prime Time, which is designed for people over age 50. These programs provide more than a great way to learn the sport. Most of the clinics include a dinner in town, and a cocktail party to celebrate the last day of the program. Many people return each year, so it's a wonderful way to make lasting friendships from all parts of the globe. Now, let's talk about tickets.

The Perks of Peaks Rewards

Breckenridge participates in Vail Resort's Peaks Rewards program, which allows you to purchase tickets online before you get to the mountain. However, that's not the only benefit. The Peaks Rewards program allows you to:

  • Earn points with lift ticket, ski school and dining purchases
  • Redeem points for exciting rewards
  • Use your Peaks Card to charge items throughout the mountain. No need to carry cash or credit card.

New this season, the Peaks Rewards program will be using Easy Pass technology. This state-of-the-art system uses Radio Frequency Technology, otherwise known as RFT. This allows the scanners to detect your pass through your jacket. No more opening zippers and fumbling to find your pass.

In most cases, purchasing your multi-day lift tickets through the Peaks Program will provide the best discounts. Some packages even include one day passes to Vail or Beaver Creek.

These come with fully equipped kitchens; you can save a considerable amount of money by eating in. Simply pick up your groceries at the City market, which is located less than a half mile from the mountain. For those who would prefer a more charming ambiance, Breckenridge has a variety of charming Bed and Breakfasts, which are perfect for anyone who is interested in exploring the exploring aspects of the town.
